I just spent an amazing weekend at the Zen Center of Las Vegas with the Five Mountain Zen Order, with whom I ordained on Saturday. My new Dharma name is Doshim, which means "Heart Way." This was my first time meeting my fellow sangha members, including my teacher Rev. Lynch. I had a great time getting to know everyone. There was plenty of fun and laughter. The retreat was not silent; in fact, one of the main purposes of the retreat was for the sangha to interact. This was a welcome change of pace from the silent ones I have participated in in the past.
I met some very warm and outgoing people, two of whom live only one hour from me, in New York City. Check out Lawrence's blog, and if you live in or near NYC, please visit his growing sangha. The three of us ordained with Five Mountain, an experience that I think brought us very close together.
Congratulations to Joshua Wanji Paskiewicz on his appointment as national abbot of the Five Mountain Order; I know he will do a great job. And to Greg LeBlanc for receiving Inga this weekend. I wish him the best of luck as a teacher.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the entire Five Mountain Order for making my first retreat so wonderful. My teacher, Rev.Lynch, is a true bodhisattva who has dedicated his life to helping others by sharing this most precious gift of the Dharma.
Most importantly, none of this would be possible without the loving support of my incredible wife and children. Thank you all so much for your patience and unwavering support.
May we all awaken together.
Thanks to Chris Hoff for the great photo. That's me on the back right.
